The Ministry of Agriculture has donated fertilisers and trained farmers on best coffee management practices in Kibaale District, aiming to boost production and improve agricultural yields.
David Nyakana, Regional Coordinator of Bunyoro under the Ministry of Agriculture, distributed fertilizers to model farmers and agricultural extension workers while addressing attendees at Cleophus Mugenyi’s coffee farm in Ngangi A Village, Kibaale Town Council.
He educated farmers on proper coffee management techniques, emphasizing pruning during fertilizer application, maintaining coffee trees correctly, and avoiding harvesting immature coffee.
Nyakana also stressed the importance of environmental conservation as a key factor in improving agricultural output.
District Production Officer Hassan Matovu reinforced Nyakana’s advice, urging farmers to use recommended tools for pruning and apply fertilizers accurately to maximize productivity.
Kibaale District Chairman Muhonge Kasanga Godfrey encouraged farmers to engage in animal rearing as a source of organic manure to further boost coffee yields, highlighting the government’s ongoing investment in empowering local farmers.
Farmers present expressed gratitude to the government and agricultural department for their continued support and pledged to implement the knowledge and techniques shared during the training.
